AFBIC Agri – startup Incubation Program
Offered By - IIT Kharagpur
About the Program
The AFBIC Agri-startup Incubation Program is designed for agripreneurs and agriculture-focused startups that already have a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or are in the expansion stage of their startup journey. Operated by AFBIC IIT Kharagpur, the program focuses on strengthening innovative agri-business ventures through incubation, mentorship, business support, and access to seed-stage funding.
Unlike idea-stage programs, this incubation initiative is intended for startups that have already progressed beyond the conceptual phase and are looking to scale operations, improve product-market fit, or strengthen commercialization capabilities. The program supports startups working on innovative technologies, services, and process-driven solutions that can improve productivity, efficiency, and remuneration in agriculture and allied sectors.
Participants undergo a one-month orientation and training process that includes mentoring from domain experts, business planning guidance, market assessment support, investor interactions, and technology-focused sessions. The incubation ecosystem also supports startups with infrastructure access, technology guidance, intellectual property support, and networking opportunities to accelerate business growth.
One of the major highlights of the program is the potential seed-stage grant support. Selected incubatees, based on recommendations from the Startup Incubation Committee (SIC), may receive up to ₹25 lakhs as an 85% grant against evaluated business plans. The funding can be used for process development, technology improvement, administrative strengthening, and scaling business operations.
The program is particularly relevant for startups solving agriculture-sector challenges through technology, operational innovation, or process improvements. Applications are reviewed by a committee involving AFBIC IIT Kharagpur, NIAM, and ecosystem stakeholders, followed by interviews for shortlisted candidates.
From a founder’s perspective, this program is most suitable for startups that already possess early validation, an MVP, or operational traction and are now seeking institutional incubation support, grant-based scaling capital, and strategic ecosystem access within the agritech sector.
